It's rare when you get to be certain you've made the right decision
Last night was one of those very rare experiences where you get to know that you've made exactly the correct decision. All three of our children had games scheduled for 6:30. HT and JR were both here in town, JC was supposed to be about 25 minutes away. Since Tuesday, forecasters had been calling for severe, very severe weather coming through last evening. In fact, it was the same system that had rolled through Oklahoma and Missouri the day before. Yesterday I continued watching the news and decided that I just wasn't going to take JC to her game. The storms were supposed to start hitting sometime between 6 & 7. I didn't want to be 25 minutes away from here when things started to get bad here, and I also didn't want HT to be out at his game alone. Yes, my husband and JR would be out at the park, but they were supposed to have a game of their own. This was just not okay with me...not at all. My sister was originally going to be down here to keep an eye on HT at his game, but I had told her not to come down. I didn't need the to be worrying about my sister being out and about on top of everything else. My decision involving JC boiled down to this...if my gut was wrong, the worst case scenario meant JC would miss a game. I could live with that. If my gut was right and I ignored it, JC and I could be away from home in a very serious storm, and HT could be terrified and alone. This was one of those rare times when I get to know with complete certainty that my decision was correct. Our family ventured to the ball park right about 6:00, and by 6:15 the warning alarms had sounded at the park. We were home by 6:25, and by 6:45 we were in the basement because of the tornado sirens. The kids did really well and we were very lucky. The worst part of the storm near us went about 2 miles south. It really picked up "steam" as it went east and in the eastern part of our area there was tennis ball and in some cases even softball size hail as well as some smaller tornadoes. We are so grateful that we were spared the worst of things, and I've said many prayers for the victims of the storms.
