It was a frigid swim meet

Yesterday was the first swim meet of the summer season.  Originally our plan was to be out of town, but instead it will be next week and we'll miss the first home swim meet.  I hate to do that, but it couldn't be avoided.  I'm not a fan of traveling to this particular pool as it is about a 45 minute drive.  The last time we were there for a regular meet was the very first meet ever for our family, and the weather stunk.  It was wet, chilly, and delay after delay resulted in not even completing the final events.

Yesterday was a very wet and very chilly day.  An hour before we even left to drive to the meet (so about 4:00 in the afternoon) it was 60 degrees with a windchill of 57, and the rain (yet, that too!) was coming down sideways because it was so windy.  You really gotta love that.  Fortunately, the rain did stop and it was a nearly cloudless evening.  Which of course meant the temps (such as they were!) could really drop once the sun went down.

Catherine held up better than I expected her to, but overall, it really broke my heart.  My sweet babies were so cold after each race, and Thomas was literally shivering uncontrollably.  I was begging him to put on his sweatshirt, and I thought I might start to cry if I had to watch him shiver one second more.  It didn't help my feelings that they've both been sick and that we are leaving for vacation tomorrow.  The kids did fine overall, and I'm glad we got it in.  And I'm grateful it's done and we could get in the vehicle and get warm!
