My heart might explode
Parenting has so many rewards, but few are as obvious as the one that occurred last night. JC and I had our final game of the season. Our record before the game was only 2-7, but I have been so impressed with how well the girls have played lately. The progress from the beginning of the season has really been amazing. Last night we were playing well, but the other team had one explosive inning. Heading into the bottom of the last inning, we were down by three runs. JC came up to bat and by then we had pulled to within one run. I'll be honest, I really wanted to win that game. I wanted the girls to be able to take the feeling of victory with them throughout the rest of the summer. JC hit a ball right down the first base line. She was tagged out, but our runner on third was able to make it home and tie the game. I was ecstatic! The girls didn't realize we had tied the game, but the next batter was able to drive in another run and we won! The girls were excited and so were the parents. If we could only win three, having two of those wins be the first and last games of the season is the right way to go about it. The best part happened when we came home. JC came up to hug me and said, "Thanks for coaching me Mom. I had a great season." I thought my heart might explode at that very moment. I just felt so lucky and blessed to be able to share this experience with her. I was so giddy about the whole thing I couldn't sleep last night. I just kept replaying some of the highlights of the season over and over in my head...memories I'll cherish forever.

Oh Yeah! Congrats to you and the team. I have to say that the story about your husbands experience made me chuckle. Only because we coached 2 years ago and could not handle the disorganization of the way ball was run. My hubby and the "main" man got into it over standing it the rain for 20+ minutes with lightening trying to wait it out for 6 year olds to play on a Sunday. Don't worry about the integrity of you hubby. It is there. They have too many problems getting coaches so I think you will be ok. The year we coached was the year FOUR coaches said, "I'm done with this." Volunteering is often a thankless job. So glad your DD remembered to say thanks. Hope you have a great weekend.
