The middle of February

Not only is it a wet and dreary Monday morning, but the rain is the remnants of a cold front that is going to make it awfully frigid here.  Knowing that this is simply the weather pattern for this time of year just makes it even ickier, and I'm finding it tough to motivate today.

Fortunately though, we had a really great weekend.  My shopping on Friday turned out to be pretty much of a bust because I just refuse to spend money...that isn't really a bad thing on the long run.  Friday evening we attended the high school basketball game, where it was not surprising that all three teams lost.  We just aren't very good at boys' basketball this year.  I was grateful though, that we were able to sit with some people I know and who are very similar to us.  We just don't have friends here, but that is another post for another day.

Saturday morning we were up and out the door by 7AM to get Robert to a scouting event.  Catherine had basketball games at 9 & 10, and Thomas had games at 11 & 1, and of course Robert had to be picked up from his event early afternoon as well.  Catherine played really, really well at her games and it was really fun to watch.  She also pointed out that in their second game, her team scored 51 points which was more than the high school varsity boys the evening before...which her team thought was pretty darn funny.  Thomas's team lost both of their games, which they have done at every game this season, but although they were down by over 20 to begin the fourth quarter of their first game, they battled back to within seven...it got really exciting for a bit!  I regret that for Catherine, this season is most likely the end of her basketball career, but I can't change how things are.

After an unsuccessful attempt at a quick nap, we took the kids to our friends' house and the adults ventured to a community art show to support Thomas's Godfather who was one of the artists on display.  We enjoyed being out with friends and got to see a few other friends, and just really enjoyed our evening.  With everyone's schedules it is just so tough to get to see all of these people who are so dear to us, and it makes the opportunities when we can even more treasured!

Yesterday was just a tremendously relaxing day.  Andrew made breakfast and we exchanged cards for our anniversary.  With our schedule and timing of things, we decided that we would go out later for a combined anniversary/Valentine's Day dinner.  We really enjoyed spending the day at home, especially since I didn't feel great.  We sat and watched episodes of "Friends" with the kids, and Andrew brought in fried chicken for dinner.  I don't know that I've ever been more in love with my husband then I was yesterday!

Fortunately, we only have four days of school this week and I'm really looking forward to sleeping in on Friday!  After the kids games on Saturday, we are heading to PA to visit with my in-laws since we didn't get to much at Christmas, although we are keeping an eye on the weather as always this time of year.  Here's to another week!
